Mood Boards
First I created mood boards to get the ideas flowing. I compiled images to draw inspiration from. This includes styles of art on brand with my project, images of the fruit and images of other similar drinks.
Sketches
I came up with a few different concepts on paper. I tried to design sketches that emphasized the intensity of the beverage. I added lighting bolts, jagged lines and a screaming mouth to achieve this effect. I also tried out drawing the actual fruit on some of the sketches. I ended up moving forward with the screaming mouth concept.
First Digital Versions
Below are my first few rounds of digital versions of my sketches. The first and second designs are the ones I made first. The last two are improvements on the first design. I moved forward with my first design and made changes that resulted in the last two designs. I changed the style of the flavor by making it look more like a banner similar to how the alcohol content appears. I also changed the font of the flavor. In these designs you can see the tag line "flavor that strikes you to your core" repeated all throughout the background to create a texture. I moved forward with the Screaming Mouth design since I felt it was much more attention grabbing and had a more intense, in your face look which is on brand with the product.
For my final design I removed the gradient from the flavor banner since it made the design too busy. I also increased the size of the flavor to make it more visible. I changed the Screaming Seltzer text by increasing the font size more and more for each letter as it moves toward the middle. The text in the middle is bigger than the edges. This makes the text more punchy and emphatic. I decreased the size of the alcohol text so it would fit within the banner instead of cropping off the edge, this made the text more legible. I changed the color of the lips of the mouth and moved the teeth further up so it doesn't look like the teeth are floating.
Street Signs & Billboard Mockups
I made a street sign mockup with a background of a concert. The purple lights of the party match the purple pitaya flavor. I have the tagline below "flavor that strikes you to your core". I also have an alcohol warning that says "women should not drink during pregnancy, do not drink and drive", this gives more realism to the project. Additionally I made a billboard mockup. I utilized the speech bubble for the title for some more visual interest. I also have the same tagline and alcohol warning below.
Reflection
I learned when you have too much going on at once in your design it takes away from all the other elements and the viewer doesn't know where to keep their attention. I also learned that when making mockups it is crucial to design the entire product. I did not end up making the backside for this drink so it is not as realistic.
