Typography & Mood Boards
I searched through Adobe Fonts to find some of the most fitting options for the project. I listed them all out so I could narrow down the best one. I created a mood board with colors pulled from Anthony Fantano's famous flannel shirts. When Anthony Fantano wears a yellow flannel in his YouTube album reviews it means he loved an album, however when he wears a red flannel it means he hated it. I also added images of clips from YouTube videos in which Anthony Fantano has interesting expressions on his face that could be contenders for the flip book cover.
Sketches
My first two sketches are for the cover of the flip book. I thought it would be beneficial to add Anthony Fantano's face on the cover since it is so recognizable. The last three sketches are concepts for the design of the pages of the flip book. I tried out a few methods of laying out the important information to see what works best. I thought the first of the three page sketches looked the cleanest and made the most sense in terms of visual hierarchy.
First Digital Versions
For the cover I got an image of Anthony Fantano with this crazy excited expression on his face. The "10/10" font is the same font Anthony Fantano puts on the screen of his YouTube review videos when he is rating the albums. I added a yellow background with purple dots to match the other colors and add excitement. The back cover is just a close up of one of Anthony Fantano's famous yellow flannel shirts. I made the table of contents page simple and clean. I greatly increased the size of the "Table of Contents" text to add some personality and style. For the pages of the flip book I thought it would be beneficial to have the size of the cover art very large since they are all very well designed and one of the most important parts of the book. The design at the top of the pages with the two circles connected with a line is meant to show that the two pages are directly related. I added a green 10/10 emblem to emphasize that all of these albums were indeed rated 10/10. There were a few more pages that I didn't show since they are essentially the same in terms of layout and design.
Final Design
For the cover I changed the title font to something less crazy and more legible since there is already a lot going on in the design. I decided to remove the purple dots since they were distracting. I added in the yellow flannel to the table of contents page to add more cohesion and unity since I used to only have the flannel appear in the cover. For the rest of the pages I changed the album titles to bold to add visual hierarchy. Every other page I switched the layout up. I reversed the album information and body copy with the album art and title. I also moved the 10/10 emblem to the left as well.
Reflection
With this project I learned that sometimes repetition can make your project look stale when overused. When I mixed up the layout of some of the pages in my final design it keeps the viewer on their toes.
